Gavin Kent Buchanan was born September 5, 2007 to Molly McAfee and Adam Buchanan. It was a glorious day for all.
Gavin was always a big boy and would often tower over kids his age and older. He had blond hair and big blue eyes. He was fearless, determined and physically strong. Gavin loved to play rough and test his parent’s patience, a knack he was very good at.
He was also loving, cuddly, soft hearted and a mama’s boy.
His nicknames were Bam-Bam, Gav-Gav, Bubby and Punkin Boy.
As a toddler he loved Elmo and Bob the Builder and as he outgrew them his loves were Lego's, Star Wars, Transformers and riding his ATV-Quad. But more than toys, Gavin loved his family and he loved all animals but especially dogs.
Gav had a special place in his heart for Police K9s and at the age of 5 he donated $100 of his hard earned chore and tooth fairy money to Cover Your K9 to help purchase a bullet proof vest for a K9 officer. At the age of 6 he saved $100 again and donated that as well because he wanted the K9 with his hometown police department of Benicia CA to have a vest too. When asked why he would do such a thing he simply said “So they don’t get shot and die”.
Gavin was named Cover Your K9’s Ambassador of 2015.
One week after his 8th birthday on September 13, 2015 Gavin and his parents perished at their weekend cabin. We are so often asked “What happened to the little boy?” and we can only share that Gavin and his parents died at the hands of another. It is imperative that Gavin's Story must always be about how he lived his short life and not how he died.
